About Tweed Coast Physical Culture Club
At Tweed Coast Physical Culture Club (Tweed Coast Physie for short), we proudly teach the BJP Physical Culture curriculum. BJP Physie is the oldest running and most prestigious Physical Culture establishment in Australia. For 125 years, BJP has provided a national platform for Physie clubs to come together to engage in competitions and camaraderie.
“Physie is an elegant way of developing not only fitness but also grace, strength and focus in our girls and women. At BJP, what we are most proud of is how Physie weaves its way throughout the lives of Australian families. Generations of women have discovered lifelong friendships, a true sense of community and a sport for life in Physie.” – Jackie Rawlings, BJP Physical Culture
Empowering Girls for Life
There is an aura of confidence around Physie girls of all ages. Taught to stand tall, with strength and pride, they are team players committed to achieving their goals.
Unlike some ballet and dance studios, Tweed Coast Physie focuses on developing the self-esteem of its students. By teaching them to have a positive relationship with their bodies, we help students blossom with confidence and self-assurance.
BJP Physie is passionate about nurturing students’ total wellbeing, in both mind and body. Physie is an accepting and encouraging team sport, where every member is supported and motivated to be the best they can be.
Meet the teachers at Tweed Coast Physie!
LISA
Lisa’s teaching career began by helping her teacher at a young age, maybe 14 or 15 and It was during her senior years where she learned the most about teaching by being a demonstrator and assistant teacher. Many of Lisa’s past students have also gone on to become teachers and this is an achievement that she is most proud of.
‘Assisting students with their technique is a great passion of mine, helping girls to improve their grace, strength, and instilling confidence in both their individual and team performances. I enjoy teaching girls and ladies of all ages. To be able to help someone understand a step or a position and help them perfect their technique is a wonderful feeling.’
Lisa aims to develop a diverse culture at class, where people feel comfortable no matter what their skill or commitment level. It’s great to have a laugh, and important to look after your body and your mind.
At Tweed Coast Physie we take great care to ensure every member is prepared for any competition they choose to enter, and every member who chooses not to compete remains feeling included. From tips on how to manage and embrace nerves, to helping them understand the various venues they will attend, to planning all the celebrations that follow.
Testimonials from Students and Family at Tweed Coast Physie
SUSE P
My daughter has been a member of Tweed Coast Physie since the club first began in 2020. The club runs quite a number of classes for specific age ranges, which means smaller classes and more one on one teaching opportunities. This is perfect for my daughter who was only 6 and quite shy when she started. The end of year performance is a real highlight where you see all of the dances come together. I have seen my daughter gain more confidence and more rhythmic ability since she started doing physie. I enjoy the encouragement and support given to all club members.

I have done Physie on and off since I was 5 years old (I’m now 51) attending 4 different clubs all of which were amazing. For younger girls it is a great way to grow confidence and keep fit and healthy which is why I introduced my daughter, it gets her moving, improves posture, confidence and flexibility, but this flows all the way through to ladies as well as providing an opportunity to grow new friendships. Lisa and Tim have done a fantastic job opening this club in the most challenging time ever, their caring support and dedication to the girls, ladies and each other is the foundation of great things to come.
JUSTINE
I’ve been a “physie girl” since I was 5 years old. I joined physie as my mum wanted me to get into dance and knew how safe physie is and how it has Pilates and calisthenics type movements in it. It also builds team work and enabled me to grow friendships too. A whole package deal. Physical Culture is also one of the oldest and most affordable sports around especially in the dancing category but by no means lacking in fitness, flexibility and improved posture, balance and strength. I continued my physie into my high school years then stopped due to finishing school. When I moved to Kingscliff I was sad that the nearest physie club was across the border and really wanted to get back into it with my daughter who’s now five. To find there was a club starting up we were was so exciting. Lisa our physie teacher has done it since she was little and inspires us all to do our best and have fun while doing it. Whether it’s for purely fitness and friendships or for the competitions that are a chance to celebrate what we’ve learnt through the year, no matter the outcome at the competition we know we did our best and had fun while doing it.
I highly recommend Tweed Coast Physie for a great way to have fun and fitness and learn to work as a team. First class is free for a trial and the Club accepts both Creative and Active Kids vouchers which is a total bonus.

I have been doing Physie since I could walk. Physie is my life.
I had only been at one physie club out in the middle of NSW so when my family decided to make to the move up north, all I wanted was to find a new physie club to call home.
I was scared because I was leaving my physie family and comfort zone, but joining Tweed Coast Physie has been AMAZING. Lisa and Tim have been so welcoming and caring. It is only a new club but it is awesome. I would really encourage girls to come and join us at Tweed Coast Physie – make some new friends, get active and have some fun.
